Painting Media and Artist Tips

 

I use a select number of drawing and painting media for my classes and commission work - graphite pencil, charcoal, pastels, oil, and watercolor. I teach portraiture with mostly graphite pencil, and advance portraiture in pastels. I use graphite pencils and colored markers for general drawing classes and have students explore watercolor medium.

My commission work is in pastels, oils, and colored pencils. Terra Cotta colored pencil is my choice for the most affordable price point commissions. Pastels and oils complete the price range of mediums for my commission portrait work. Pastels are the midrange of price, and oils command the highest prices with generally more formal, classic representation of subjects.
